Information about METRA and this website

METRA stands for Mi'ráj Extraterrestrial Research Association. Established in 1996 in the U.K., our aim is to research the evidence for the existence of extraterrestrial intelligences in the scriptures and other religious writings, in the lives of the prophets and saints; to report the phenomena of historical as well as contemporary extraterrestrial visitations and interactions, to investigate their purpose and role in human affairs; to assist in the rising global awareness and understanding of these issues; to establish a network of like-minded souls and provide a forum for sharing knowledge, experiences, offer support, hold discussions and organise events; and to document and investigate wherever possible, any current reports of alleged sightings of unidentified flying objects (UFOs) and alien encounters.

Being a muslim organisation, our focus is primarily on the islamic sources and the muslim world, in particular Pakistan at present. We offer references from the Holy Quran and Ahadith on the subject, which although containing often explicit evidence are hitherto not widely appreciated for their significance and connection with present-day happenings outside of mainly sufi circles. The celebrated event of the Mi'ráj (ascension) of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) epitomises this state of affairs, hence the adoption of the name 'Miraj' for our organisation. We believe we are one of the only few such organisations to cater specifically for the growing worldwide interest in UFOs, extraterrestrials and related subjects amongst English speaking muslims. It must be made clear that we are NOT a religious sect or sufi group, nor do we engage in promoting or expounding any dogma. That said however, most of our members are sunni (orthodox) following the hanafi fiqh, either a part of a sufi silsila or otherwise spiritually aware and disposed, all sharing the same interest. We do not tolerate or engage in religious disputations, only seek to study, research, liaise and inform on an intellectual level. Our association is open to all people sharing our interest, aims and goals regardless of religion, creed, race, gender, planet of origin or persuasion with regard to the existence of extraterrestrials.

This website you are browsing now is a temporary site, first uploaded on Mi'raj-un-Nabi, October 2002 to help promote and expand the organisation. Although there is currently no official membership list, if you agree with all that is written above and you wish to learn more and join our association, please send me an email asking to be included on our database of contacts and interested individuals.
